Barack Obama’s race (no, not the white half) is playing an increasingly prominent and ugly role at the McCain/Palin campaign rallies. Screams of racial slurs, “kill him!”, “tie him up!”, etc. It’s pretty sickening.
So here’s an antidote. Want to see a true blue collar, white voter give his passionate perspective? Watch the AFL-CIO’s Richard Trumka speaking at a United Steel Workers convention this past July. (You can’t get much more blue collar than that.) It’s a heartfelt few minutes about the role of race in the election, and his own experience in his hometown of Nemacolin, Pa. The spontaneous reaction from the large, mostly white audience helps make this stirring video well worth seeing.
